Having won just five seats more than the BJP in the 230-member Assembly, the Congress is being extra cautious; it won 114 seats but its vote share was marginally less than BJP’s. For the first time in 15 years, it will contest the general elections as the ruling party in the state.
Chouhan addressed the second "Ganatantra Bachao rally" at Kharagpur after travelling by road and lashed out at the Mamata Banerjee government, saying the BJP would not stop till the TMC was ousted from power.
Protesters recited the national song during the protest and former Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced that he and all other BJP MLAs will recite the song inside the secretariat premises at 10 am on January 7 — the first day of the ensuing Assembly session.
“It’s a gimmick to score political points. He ignored conservation of the Narmada. These saints should inspect where the state government has planted six crore saplings as claimed by the CM,” said Congress spokesperson Pankaj Chaturvedi.
