Nineteen children from the ashram, run by Shishuvihar Vidyaprasarak trust, managed to walk to a mini-bus owned by the shelter home. It took them to the house of a trustee of the organisation.

The court in Begusarai also turned down an application filed by Verma, through her counsel last week, wherein she had pleaded that she was not evading arrest, but "seeking relief as per law" and hence, she may not be proclaimed an absconder.

Bihar police had been conducting raids since morning at several locations across the state in a struggle to arrest Verma, who had been absconding. She came under the scanner after cartridges were found at her residence during the CBI raid in connection with the case.

The court also pulled up the Bihar Police for failing to arrest former Bihar Minister Manju Verma under the Arms Act, after the CBI found over 50 live cartridges during a raid on premises linked to her in Begusarai.
