"73 people were arrested in 30 cases registered in 2015 and 34 people arrested in 28 cases registered in 2016 under the offence of Sedition (Section 124A of IPC)," he said. The 2016 figure excludes Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal as data from the two states were not available.

New Delhi, Feb 18 (ANI): Staging a march protest Mandi House to Jantar Mantar, the students of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) on Thursday wore "Mera Yaar Kanhaiya" T-Shirts and sold them in order to show their support to Kanhaiya Kumar. Students of JNU took out the rally demanding Kanhaiya’s release and dropping of sedition charges against him. Meanwhile, Kanhaiya applied for a bail before the Supreme Court and the matter will be heard on Friday. Former Attorney General Soli Sorabjee is likely to argue for Kanhaiya’s bail plea.

New Delhi, Feb 17 (ANI): The Patiala House Court on Wednesday sent Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) Students' Union president Kanhaiya Kumar, who was arrested on sedition charges, to judicial custody till March 2. Kanhaiya was produced in the court under heavy security cover as his two-day police custody ended today. Kanhaiya has been charged with sedition in connection with the February 9 event on the JNU campus during which anti-India slogans were raised.
