The Collegium, headed by Chief Justice of India N V Ramana and also comprising Justices U U Lalit and A M Khanwilkar, which met on December 14, 2021 and January 29, 2022, also recommended 14 advocates and three judicial officers for appointment as judges in Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Orissa HCs.

In decisions taken on September 16, the collegium headed by Chief Justice of India N V Ramana had recommended “re-transfer” of Justice Bagchi to his parent HC. The collegium did not provide any reasons for the transfer.

The 15 are from a list of 17 judges whose transfers were recommended by the SC collegium headed by Chief Justice of India N V Ramana on September 16.

Coming amid concerns over judicial backlog resulting from the vacancies, the decision is seen as a significant step and reflects the “collective determination of the Collegium to strengthen the judiciary by filing vacancies”.

The collegium headed by Chief Justice of India N V Ramana, which met on September 16, recommended elevation of Acting Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court Justice Rajesh Bindal as CJ of Allahabad HC and Madhya Pradesh HC judge Justice Prakash Shrivastava as CJ of Calcutta.

The Collegium, which met on July 21, has approved the proposals to appoint Justices V G Arun, N Nagaresh, T V Anilkumar and N Anil Kumar as Permanent Judges in Kerala High Court. They are now Additional Judges in the high court.

The new Collegium will now comprise of Chief Justice of India SA Bobde, NV Ramana, Arun Mishra, Rohinton Nariman and R Banumathi. The last and only woman judge in the Collegium was Justice Ruma Pal, who retired in 2006.
