Valuable data was gathered by the satellite until 1969 and two years later it was decommissioned. Since then the OGO-1 has been revolving around on a highly elliptical orbit. It takes two days for the satellite to complete its trajectory around our planet.

The recent data shows that it is expanding westward and splitting into two lobes which can result in the weakening of the magnetic field and thus creating problems for current and future satellite missions.

New Delhi, Feb 26 (ANI): India and the United States are collaborating to build a satellite on climate change which will be launched in 2021, said US ambassador to India Richard Verma.Divulging details, Verma said space agencies are developing NASA –ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar project or NISAR and plan to launch it from India’s impressive geo-synchronised satellite launch vehicle in 2021. Verma added that the satellite will use advance radar imaging to provide an unprecedented detail view of earth.
