The contradiction has taken on new meaning in light of several recent reports, including one on an FBI counterintelligence investigation that was opened in 2017 into whether Trump had secretly acted on Russia’s behalf — one facet of the Justice Department’s investigation into Moscow’s interference in the 2016 presidential election.
"We won't be able to turn a blind eye to the potential deployment of new US missiles on the territories where they may threaten Russia," Sergei Ryabkov said, adding that such intermediate-range missiles would tilt the existing strategic balance between Russia and the US.
The two-day India-Russia annual bilateral summit concluded in New Delhi on Friday. PM Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin signed S-400 defence deal, amid the US warning. The two sides also inked pacts in areas ranging from defence, railways nuclear energy, space and economy.
The praise from Russia's elite for Putin's performance at the summit contrasted sharply with the reaction in Washington where US President Donald Trump's own Republican party accused him of failing to stand up to Putin.
Russia has said that there was "no alternative" to the agreement and that Iran's position was on the issue was paramount. Iran's President Hassan Rouhani rejected any hopes of rewriting the nuclear deal.
Meeting with top Russian media figures on Thursday, Putin said Kim "is an absolutely competent and already mature politician" who has "solved his strategic task -- he has a nuclear warhead and a global-range missile."
