The BJP on Wednesday accused the Opposition of deceiving and exploiting the sentiments of the mother of Rohith Vemula, a scholar whose suicide in 2016 had sparked a major political row, for petty political gains.

To the local district authorities, to citizens of Telugu country, to the Dalit masses, Rohith’s mother Radhika is a Dalit, her eldest child Nileema is a Dalit, the youngest child Raja is a Dalit, which means Rohith Vemula too ought to be a Dalit.
The report of the one-man judicial commission under former Allahabad high court judge Justice A K Roopanwal, set up by the human resource development ministry, said "Vemula was a troubled individual and was unhappy for several reasons".

Congress leaders K C Venugopal and Ranjeet Ranjan today gave the privilege motion against Irani, citing her arrogance and blatant lies as the reason for doing so.The privilege motion against Irani is being moved with regard to the discussion related to the suicide of PhD scholar Rohith Vemula in August last year.
New Delhi, Feb 23 (ANI): Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday reached Jantar Mantar to join the protest by students demanding justice for Rohith Vemula. Addressing the students, Rahul Gandhi said Rohith's voice was muzzled. He added that the country needs a law that doesn't let students' voices in colleges and universities be stifled. He said Rohith talked about India's future, but RSS doesn't support the same.
Hyderabad, Jan 27 (ANI): Protests by students against the recent suicide case of Rohith Vemula have intensified in the University of Hyderabad. A protestor on Wednesday said that the administration forcefully undertook few people to medical care who were observing hunger strike as their health had deteriorated.
Hyderabad, Jan 24 (ANI): Demanding justice for Dalit scholar, Rohith Vemula, who committed suicide, students of Hyderabad Central University on Sunday went on an indefinite hunger strike here. Students’ Joint Action Committee has planned a ‘Chalo HCU' campaign tomorrow. The protesting students said they were raising their voice against the government and would continue to do so until justice was delivered. National Students Union of India (NSUI) president Roji M. John, who met Rohith's mother, said the issue was related to the student community and NSUI would continue to fight for Rohith Vemula.
Hyderabad, Jan 21 (ANI): Four days after Dalit PhD scholar Rohith Vemula ended his life, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) student leader Nandanam Susheel Kumar, with whom Vemula had a tiff, alleged that Ambedkar Students Association (ASA) members attacked him in the presence of university security personnel and forced him to apologise. He said the reason of Rohith’s death should be examined and there should be a fair enquiry in it.
Hyderabad, Jan 19 (ANI): The members of the Telangana's Jagruti Yuva Morcha staged a protest outside Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya's residence in Hyderabad on Tuesday, demanding justice and compensation of Rs. 50 lakhs for a Dalit PhD scholar. In a tragic incident, a Dalit PhD scholar Rohith Vemula was found hanging at a central university's hostel room in Hyderabad on Sunday. Rohith, a resident of Guntur, was pursuing his PhD in society studies from the university. Union Minister for Labour Bandaru Dattatreya has been charged with abetment to suicide. A case has been filed against Dattatreya, University of Hyderabad Vice Chancellor Apparao, ABVP activist Susheel Kumar and his brother Vishnu by the Hyderabad police under section 306A. Meanwhile, the HRD ministry has asked a two-member panel to probe the case.
