ABOUT Reena Roy

Reena Roy: A Veteran Actress's Enduring Legacy Reena Roy, born Saira Ali, is a prominent figure in Indian cinema. Her career, spanning decades, showcases remarkable versatility and enduring appeal. Roy’s debut in Zaroorat (1972) was followed by a string of successes, including Jaise Ko Taisa (1973) and Zakhmee (1975), establishing her presence in the industry. The action thriller Kalicharan (1976) and the horror film Nagin (1976) propelled her to A-list status. Further successes followed with Vishwanath and Aasha (both 1978). While she won the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress award for Apnapan (1977), Roy declined the honour citing categorical concerns. Her prolific output continued through the late 1970s and 1980s, with notable roles in Jaani Dushman (1979), Aasha (1980), Arpan (1983), Asha Jyoti (1984), Naseeb (1981), and Sanam Teri Kasam (1982). Following her marriage to cricketer Mohsin Khan in 1983 and subsequent move to Pakistan, Roy took a sabbatical from acting. Returning to India in 1992 after her divorce, she resumed her acting career with Aadmi Khilona Hai (1993), later appearing in supporting roles in films like Ajay (1996), Gair (1999), and Refugee (2000). Since the early 2000s, Roy has primarily focused on raising her daughter, Sanam Khan, while also making occasional television appearances and co-running an acting school with her sister. Her iconic roles, combined with her resilience and enduring presence, solidify her place as a legendary figure in Bollywood.
