The students are demanding the withdrawal of the draft hostel manual, in which service charges of Rs 1,700 were introduced and the one-time mess security fee, which is refundable, has been hiked from Rs 5,500 to Rs 12,000.
Hundreds of students protested outside the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) auditorium today where 'Nishank' along with Vice President Venkaiah Naidu had gone to attend the third convocation ceremony of JNU. The auditorium is around 3 km away from JNU.

The ministry also granted approval to the tenure track system for faculty recruitment and the council also decided to accept tuition fee waiver to SC, ST and physically handicapped students enrolled in MTech courses in NITs and IIEST.
We want to give a final shape to the policy by October-end. The meeting will have discussions on the same. When the draft was put in the public domain, over 2 lakh suggestions and feedbacks were received, said a source.
