East Champaran Lok Sabha constituency is witnessing a keen contest between five-time BJP MP and Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh and Rashtriya Lok Samata Party (RLSP) candidate Aakash Singh, son of former Union minister and Congress’s Rajya Sabha MP Akhilesh Prasad Singh.
Acharya Dev Vrat said he appreciated the efforts of Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur in promoting natural farming in the state. He said only natural farming could increase the organic carbon content of the soil.
It was Narendra Modi government which procured 64 lakh tonnes of pulses and oilseeds in past four years, Union Minister Radha Mohan Singh said and added that the Centre has allowed states to procure 56.9 lakh tonnes.
The complaint was filed by Mukesh R Bharwad (35), vice-president of OBC, SC/ST Ekta Manch. Bharwad has said that Singh, while addressing the media in Bihar on June 2, said that the protests by farmers were only for publicity.
When asked about the protest at a press conference on Saturday in Patna, Radha Mohan Singh said that farmers opted for "unusual deeds" to draw media attention as they belong to organisations with only a few thousand members.
