Currently, 4.622 billion cubic meters (BCM) water is available in the dam against its live capacity of 6.229 BCM which is 25.7 per cent less than the capacity. Experts blame it on below average rain coupled with heavy release of water before the beginning of the monsoon period.

The new breaches took place in Chak Wadala and Mandiala villages of Lohian in Jalandhar, and Sarupwal village of Sultanpur Lodhi sub-division in Kapurthala. In the affected villages, water level went up from 3-4 feet Monday to 10-12 feet Tuesday evening.
