The department of social security and women and child development, Punjab, in an affidavit told the court that there are around 6.5 lakh “physical handicapped persons” in the state as per the 2011 census.
The inquiry had been ordered by Jails Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa. Former Additional Registrar (admn) Cooperative Societies and an IAS officer Devinder Singh conducted the inquiry into the appointment of Karamjit Kaur.
Overall, rural and urban areas taken together in Punjab, the top priority of the voters was better employment opportunities (51.70 per cent respondent), agriculture loan availability (33.85 per cent respondents) and higher price realization for farm products (31.39 per cent respondents).
