Farmer unions launch statewide protest against new moong procurement policies

The farm unions, who held protests in 70 places across 23 districts of Punjab, have claimed that the government was asking for copies of farad (land records) to be submitted with the procurement agency before purchase of the moong and maize crops.

An official spokesperson said that of the total wheat procured so far, about 4.45 lakh MT has been lifted by the Centre and Rs 431.86 crore has been transferred to the bank accounts of farmers for selling their crops at MSP.
