“We have already submitted DPR of the 46-km route, estimated to cost Rs 12,015 crore, to the PMC and they are working on it. The 36-km route, mainly of Ring Road, will have Metro Neo and its DPR will be submitted by this month end,” he said.

Currently, trains will be run on two routes: 5-km from Garware college to Vanaz station and 7-km from PCMC to Phugewadi, both with five stations. The minimum fare has been kept at Rs 10 and the maximum fare is Rs 20, while Rs 30 is for a return journey.

The people then got off the train and moved to the opposite side to catch the return rake. At 12.20pm, the train started its return journey for Pimpri which it convered in 10 minutes.

Gautam Birhade, executive director, Pune Metro Rail and in-charge of the Reach 1 and Reach 2 stretch of the metro route, said the stretch from PCMC to Bopodi is 45 per cent complete. The foundation of 317 of the 456 pillars is complete, and 256 pillars and 163 pillar caps are ready, he said.
