MUDRA NPAs work out to 5.28 per cent of the total disbursements of Rs 311,811 crore as of March 2019, when compared to 3.96 per cent of total disbursements of Rs 246,437 crore in the previous year, as per MUDRA’s figures.
According to the latest report published by the State Level Bankers’ Committee (SLBC) in Gujarat, in just three months — between December 2018 and March 2019 — the NPAs under the central government loan scheme for promoting small and micro enterprises crossed Rs 516 crore in in 99,541 “stressed” accounts.
The sharp surge in Mudra loans, meant for micro and small entrepreneurs, comes in the backdrop of ongoing general elections. Government sources said banks typically step up lending under the scheme towards the end of the year.
The prime minister invited entrepreneurs and businessmen to share their success stories on social media. He said, "Dear friends on social media, do share with me success stories of Mudra Yojana that you know about."
