Onam 2019 Date in Kerala: According to the Malayalam calendar, Onam, the annual harvest festival of the state of Kerala is usually celebrated for 10 days in the month of Chingam, which, as per the Gregorian calendar, overlaps with the months of August-September.
The KSRTC has advised passengers to reserve tickets prior to the date of the journey either through online (www.ksrtc.in) or at computerised KSRTC ticket counters operated at key bus depots across and outside the state.
"During this year's Onam, many of the families are living at relief camps, unable to return to their homes. This Onam is theirs too. Our celebrations would be complete only when the cheers of Onam are transferred to them too," CM Pinarayi VIjayan said.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, MoS in charge of urban transport, officially cut the ribbon together, marking the formal start of the Metro services to Thykoodam.
Onam 2018: Keralites celebrate Onam as the state gradually recovers from the disastrous floods that ravaged the coastal state and caused a horrendous loss of life and property which has been recorded as unprecedented in recent times.
Onam is the biggest festival for Malayalis, and is celebrated with much fanfare not only across through Kerala, but Malayalis around the world. Festivities include musical and dance performances, not to forget the traditional Onam sadhya.
