The CBI informed the court that an operation will be carried out within a month to search and retrieve four country-made pistols, which were allegedly dismantled and thrown by the accused into a creek in adjoining Thane district.
Punalekar (53) and Bhave (34) were arrested by the agency on May 25. They were produced before the court on Saturday after their first custodial remand ended. The court of Additional Sessions Judge A V Rotte extended their custody till June 4.
Dabholkar (67) was shot dead by two assailants at the Omkareshwar bridge in Pune on August 20, 2013. The CBI had alleged that Punalekar had instructed Kalaskar to dismantle a set of firearms, including the one used in Dabholkar’s murder.
Expressing “shock” over the high court’s observations questioning the CM, Tawde said: “The High Court should give their observations in writing. It will then bring greater clarity and enable government to respond.”
