The case pertains to June, 2004, when four individuals, Ishrat Jahan, her friend Javed Sheikh alias Pranesh, Amzad Ali Rana and Zeeshan Johar were killed in an alleged fake encounter by the Ahmedabad police on the outskirts of the city.

As soon as a bench of Chief Justice of India J S Khehar and Justice D Y Chandrachud took up the matter for hearing, the counsel for the two officers told the court that they would step down today itself. The court recorded the submission.

Amin, a key accused in Ishrat case, is the only accused still under arrest. The other six accused, including top IPS officers Pandey, G L Singhal and Vanzara (retired), are out on bail.
