"Since, the NGT has disposed the matter without giving an opportunity to Tamil Nadu to file a reply, the government of Tamil Nadu has decided to make an appeal in the Supreme Court against the order of the NGT dated June 17", a policy note tabled in the Tamil Nadu Assembly said.

A Anbalagan told reporters that the Mekedatu dam would spell havoc to the ryots of Karaikal region of the Union Territory as flow of Cauvery water to Puducherry, one of the riparian states, would be hit if the reservoir came up across the river.
