The NAB accused Sharif of his involvement as a direct beneficiary of Chaudhry Sugar Mills along with his daugther Maryam stating that she had over 12 million shares in the sugar mill. Maryam was arrested in the case in August along with her cousin Yousuf Abbas.
Last week, Maryam was sent to Kot Lakhpat jail Lahore on judicial remand in this case. Her father is also in the same jail where he is serving a seven-year imprisonment in Al-Azizia Mills corruption case.
Sharif who is serving seven-year imprisonment in the Al-Azizia Steel Mills corruption case at the Kot Lakhpat Jail since December 2018, was shifted to a hospital last month on account of his physician's request.
The Better Class jails have limited facilities. Those availing the option are entitled to books and newspapers, a 21-inch television, a table and a chair, a mattress, personal bedding and clothing and food. The prisoners have to pay for all this themselves.
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had filed the case, along with two others, on Supreme Court's directives in the landmark Panama Papers case verdict last year which disqualified Nawaz Sharif, the three-time prime minister.
