Army Chief General M M Naravane has said that the Army is undertaking its operational tasks and there is no effect of the coronavirus outbreak on its operational preparedness.

Calling the Army “champion of gender equality” Naravane said that the “Indian Army has taken the initiative to induct women in rank and file, and the first batch of 100 women soldiers is undergoing training at Corps of Military Police Center and School."

Army Chief General M M Naravane said that two battalions have already been taken off from such duties and the next drawdown will happen after the Bodoland elections in Assam are completed in June-July this year.

Earlier, General Naravane had said that Parliament had passed a resolution in February 1994 stating that PoK, along with entire Jammu and Kashmir, was an integral part of India.

Sources said that ideally the government should have started preparing the day Naravane’s name was announced as the next chief on December 16, as the file with potential names was sent to the government immediately, but there is no word on the vice-chief’s appointment yet.

The Army Chief also mentioned fundamental rights “guaranteed to all our citizens”, and said if the Army was guided by them, “we will not go wrong in the discharge of our duties”.
