The raid was an outcome of an FIR lodged by Prof. K Yugindro, who served as the pro-vice-chancellor of MU for a brief period, alleging that he was manhandled by students and teachers when he came to join his duty.
A large number of students staged a demonstration in front of the administrative block of the varsity, continuing their demand to unconditionally release the students and teachers who have been lodged since the September 20 midnight raid inside the varsity campus.
The Raj Bhawan, in a letter to K Yugindro Singh on Saturday, also regretted the branding of students and teachers of the varsity as “terrorists”, observing that the “indiscretion” could lead to a further worsening of the situation on campus.
Demanding the immediate release of the detained teachers and students, Ng. Milan, JSCC convenor said, the Chief Minister of Manipur will be held responsible for the outcome unwanted consequences if the government fails to pay a heed to the JSCC demand.
