The EPFO has been settling EPF withdrawal claims at 8.55 per cent interest rate, approved for 2017-18. Now, the EPFO will settle accounts at a higher rate of 8.65 per cent for 2018-19.

Out of the four proposed labour reforms, Wages Bill 2017 was introduced in the Lok Sabha in August 2017 and was subsequently referred to Parliamentary Standing Committee. The panel gave its report in December 2018.

As per the existing rules, the trade unions are first verified by the Chief Labour Commissioner (Central), consequent to which the Ministry of Labour and Employment provides recognition. There are 13 recognised central trade unions/ federations at present in the country.
