Shopian deputy commission Yasin Choudhary told The Indian Express that the militants fired shots in the air to disperse locals and labourers loading the truck and took the vehicle a short distance away before killing the driver and setting the truck on fire.
The number of security personnel and civilians killed during the corresponding period last year was 91 and 39 respectively. A total of 177 militants were also killed by police and security forces between January to April this year.
During interrogation, accused Syed Shazia told the investigators about the presence of some more women in militants ranks who had been tasked with luring youths into militancy, officials from central security agencies said.
Shujaat Bukhari was laid to rest in his ancestral village as thousands of mourners attended his funeral amidst heavy rain. Bukhari was known for appreciating peace dialogues and believed in a political solution to Kashmir conflict. He is survived by his wife and two children.
