The plea sought setting aside of a December 7, 2018, order of the competent authority, which cited “interest of justice”, while accepting rejection of his premature release in the minutes of meetings of Sentence Review Board.
While Sushil Sharma, a former youth Congress president, has been in jail for around 23 years for murdering his wife Naina Sahni, which later came to be known as the ‘tandoor murder case’, Manu Sharma, son of former Haryana minister Vinod Sharma, had shot dead model Jessica Lall at a restaurant in 1999.
The case continued to hit the headlines long after the murder when Sharma was acquitted by a trial court in February 2006. Following a nationwide public outcry against the incident, the Delhi High Court took up the case through a fast-track trial that ended in his conviction on murder charges.
The Supreme Court has quashed a perjury case initiated against a ballistic expert who was accused of helping Manu Sharma and others secure an acquittal in the trial court in the 1999 Jessica Lall murder case.
