The BJP, which started making inroads in the state since 1952 and won three of four seats in 1989, is banking on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s popularity and the Congress’s alleged failure in communicating its programmes.
In the Mandi Lok Sabha seat, the issues including that of improving communication by four-laning of roads and railway lines, and construction of a salt mining plant have taken a back seat this election season.
The rally in Dharamshala assumes significance as it comes in the run-up to next year’s Lok Sabha polls. Currently, BJP holds all four Lok Sabha seats in Himachal. Modi congratulated the Himachal CM Jai Ram Thakur appreciating initiatives taken by state government.
Himachal became fully electrified way back in 1988, and now the government is focusing on quality and uninterrupted power supply, he said adding that efforts were also being made to promote solar power potential in the state.
