The seven fishermen had moved the court seeking a share in the compensation. Advocate Manish Dembla appearing for the seven told the court that they too were entitled to a share of the money but there was no direction to pay anything to them.

A bench of Justices Indira Banerjee and M R Shah quashed the FIR registered in connection with the case and discharged the bail bonds of the two marines Master Sergeant Massimiliano Latorre and Sergeant Major Salvatore Girone.

Italy’s decision may bring under cloud the possibility of Latorre’s return to India. Latorre was allowed to stay in Italy till July 15 by the SC on medical grounds.
