War in West Asia: Gold prices crash on inflation concerns, dollar emerges as safe bet

Despite a nearly 2% rally over the last couple of days, gold prices on both the domestic and global markets are down around 27% from their January peak, despite the war in West Asia battering global markets.

Apart from the US Fed action, the uncertainty due to ongoing tensions between Russia and Ukraine and the Israel-Hezbollah conflict has made investors rush towards safer commodities, including gold.

Spot gold jumped 0.2 per cent at $1,978.19 per ounce by 0542 GMT, after hitting its highest since July 20. US gold futures added 0.5 per cent to $1,989.90.
