Since Jio stormed in with introductory free data and voice services, the market has consolidated into three big providers, including Vodafone Idea Ltd., which completed its merger at the end of August.
The government also plans to establish India as a global hub for cloud computing, content hosting and delivery, for which the National Digital Communications Policy moots evolving regulatory frameworks for promoting the
establishment of international data centres.
The Telecom Department has also issued the draft of a new telecom policy - National Digital Communications Policy - last month with the aim to attract USD 100 billion (about Rs 6.5 lakh crore) investments in the sector.
All those writing off Indian telecom on the basis of falling revenues per minute and lower talktime,would do well to examine the impact of the Internet or 3G services once they become available over the next year or so.
