Ever-increasing death toll and surging number of patients, the swine flu outbreak in Gujarat remains unabated. While the government claims there is nothing to panic, several experts point at the ill-preparedness. The Indian Express presents a ground report.
Chief Minister Vijay Rupani's sister, Charu Shah, has been diagnosed with swine flu, sources said. She was admitted to Civil hospital in Gandhinagar but was shifted to Zydus Hospital, a private hospital, on Thursday.
According to the government release, during Cm Vijay Rupani visit to the hospitals, he advised the doctors to give Tamiflu medicine to swine flu patients. Giving the slogan of 'Any Flu-Tamiflu', Rupani even recommended the use of this medicine to treat patients with general fever.
The government announced that 17,000 teams had launched an intense door-to-door surveillance across the state with Accredited Social Health Activists and Anganwadi workers as well as with malarial surveillance squads.
