Nineteen children have died in the hospital in the last 24 hours — 13 neonatal (newborn) deaths, and six suffering from Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES), according to BRD Medical College principal P K Singh.
Gorakhpur deaths: Among the allegations the doctor is since fighting are of impersonating in an exam and of rape, of giving a wrong affidavit to the Chief Medical Officer of Gorakhpur, and of running a private clinic.
Several PILs have been filed in the high court by lawyers and social activists demanding a judicial probe and stern action against those responsible for the tragedy. The court has clubbed them all together.
The Allahabad High Court on Friday directed the UP government and the state's director general of medical education to file a detailed counter affidavit within six weeks on a PIL on the death of children in a state-run hospital in Gorakhpur.
“What action has been taken after the Gorakhpur tragedy? The BJP said strict action (would be taken) but there has been no action so far. It seems it will take action after the death of some more children,” he said.
