While no student has been asked to leave yet, mostly due to external pressure, their situation is uncertain as the RTE Act, under which EWS admissions take place, specifies free education only up till Class VIII.
In 2007, before RTE came into force, a statutory regulation said that all such schools have to reserve 20 per cent seats for EWS category children. All these students have to be provided free education till Class XII.
UPSC, SSC, Railway Recruitment 2019: About the benefits of the new quota policy not provided in the recent recruitment notifications, social justice minister Tawar Chand Gehlot clarified said the process will take time, and it will be implemented gradually
Even if half of the quotas are implemented in private colleges — 8 per cent for SEBC and 5 per cent for EWS — only 5 per cent seats in PG and 20 per cent seats in UG will remain for open category students.
