February 28 is celebrated as National Science Day to mark the invention of the Raman Effect which explains the change in the wavelength of light that occurs when a light beam is deflected by molecules. 

Pune's GMRT only third Indian facility to be awarded IEEE milestone

This is only the third time an Indian facility has recieved this milestone, after J C Bose's demonstration of generation and reception of radio waves in 1895 and the discovery of the Raman Effect by C V Raman in 1928.
