The incident is a grim reminder of the stampede that took place on a foot overbridge (FOB) connecting the local railway stations of Elphinstone Road. At least 22 people were killed and 39 others were injured.
In a tweet, the Prime Minister said, " Deeply anguished by the loss of lives due to the foot overbridge accident in Mumbai. My thoughts are with the bereaved families. Wishing that the injured recover at the earliest. The Maharashtra Government is providing all possible assistance to those affected."
