CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan made the announcement in Khajuraho where a function to give awards to gaushalas was organised. The announcement comes days before the model code of conduct kicks in the poll-bound state.
Chairman of the Madhya Pradesh Gau Samvardhan Board (cow protection board) Swami Akhileshwaranand Giri also thanked CM Shivraj SIngh Chouhan for increasing the grant for cow shelters to Rs 17 per animal against the earlier Rs 1.50.
The contest, Singh claimed, was receiving good response specially from the youth at a time when the issue of cow protection and campaign against cow slaughter had turned into a political issue in the country.
To the question on use of Chinese goods, he said Swadeshi means to use items and products that are made in small and cottage industries. "Using Swadeshi products generates employment. Using Swadeshi items manifest a sense of pride within," he said.
What measures should be taken to improve management in cowsheds so that such incidents are not repeated in future and reforms to be taken to make the system of registration, grant approval and monitoring of Gaushala more effective, the official added.
He also said that cow meat was poison. When asked if he was suggesting that cow meat should not be eaten, Kumar said, "Tobacco is also called poison and this warning is written on packets. We are not forcing anybody. We are just telling the truth. Therefore, telling the truth is not prohibiting anybody."
