China's 32nd convoy fleet to the Gulf of Aden and Somali waters set sail from a military port in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang Province on Thursday, the People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy official announced.
The vessel is the first of China's new generation of destroyers. The biggest naval destroyer was an addition to two aircraft carriers which China is in the process of deploying to compete with other naval powers liked the US and India, specially in the India Ocean.
It's now official. That China is building a blue water navy capable of operating far from its shores has been known for a while to observers of the rapid military modernization in Asia. Beijings biennial White Paper on defence issued this week simply confirms it.
