The Panchkula MC recently modified its roundabouts to reduce the fatality rate in accidents at the roundabout by developing specially designed roundabouts and by beautifying them to improve the aesthetics of the city.
On Thursday, a team of power officials when reached the area, wives of policemen protested, following which the officials had to leave the area without taking action. As they said that they will come on Friday again, the policemen’s kin have decided to meet senior officials again.
The actual “smart projects” which city residents were promised at that time — intelligent traffic management system, underground wiring to avoid blackouts during storms, smart metering, innovative use of open spaces, public bike sharing, and last mile connectivity — have remained on papers, it appears.
It is an initiative under the Chandigarh Smart City Project to incorporate new design ideas in two selected sectors — 22 and 35. The budding architects are being encouraged to re-energise these sectors with features such as greens, cycleways, pathways and other spaces.
With Lok Sabha elections to be announced any time, the engineering wing has been asked to complete the work as soon as possible, said sources.The underpass, however, has faced a lot of objections from architects.
Last month, the Smart City Limited had identified the piece of land which is to be developed. As part of the smart city project, the area will have convention centres, residential housing, including studio apartments, and various other projects.
