Speaking to PTI, CCPA Chief Commissioner Nidhi Khare said a penalty of Rs 1,00,000 has been imposed on Flipkart for allowing the sale of substandard pressure cookers on its e-commerce platform and violating the rights of consumers.

Giving an overview of activities of the CCPA that completed two years on July 24, Nidhi Khare said the CCPA so far has issued 129 notices, 71 for misleading, 49 for unfair trade practice, and 9 for violation of consumer rights.

The CCPA said, “The Central Authority may initiate necessary action under the provisions of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019 if, after investigation, it is found that the said drugs are offered for sale by any e-commerce platform in violation to the legal framework governing sale of such drugs to consume.”

An official release on Tuesday stated that advertisements of Sensodyne products which make the claims 'Recommended by dentists worldwide' and 'World's No.1 sensitivity toothpaste' have been ordered to be discontinued within seven days. The authority also directed payment of penalty of ₹ 10 lakh.
