Only three female directors — Nadine Labaki, Alice Rohrwacher and Eva Husson — are on the list of 18 competing movies at Cannes. A fourth female filmmaker could be added to the competition before the May 8-19 event starts on the French Riviera.
Festival director Thierry Fremaux talked about the festival's new rule which stated that any film which is selected to compete for Cannes will have to be released in French theatres. The rule was announced last year.
