As many as 26,610 candidates and another 27,205 candidates were supposed to sit for Class 10 and 12 board examinations on May 19 and 18 this year.

The AHSEC and SEBA committees would decide the modalities for record-based evaluation within a week. The results would be declared within July 31.

The announcement was made by the Council of Higher Education Manipur, which conducts the class 10 board examinations, and the Board of Secondary Education which conducts the class 12 exams.

This decision has been taken in light of the Covid-19 pandemic. The inter exams were earlier postponed due to Covid-19.

If the positivity rate is above two per cent on July 1, the board examinations will be cancelled, as we cannot take risk with the lives of students, the state CM said.

The minister said that exams would be held only for a few subjects. “The detailed SOPs etc will be prepared in the next week,” he said.

As other boards across the country have decided to cancel the exams, the delay in the decision by the Assam government has led to students taking to social media demanding the exams be scrapped, or announce a decision soon.

The government had previously formed an expert committee to evaluate the current Covid-19 situation and make a decision about the Class 10 and Class 12 board examinations in the state.
