While the launch performance of Samsung's latest flagship smartphones was close to Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+ (April 2017), it could not surpass the nine million mark achieved by the Galaxy S7 series in March 2016.
The smartwatch market globally is expected to witness a boost in the second half of 2017, according to a Canalys report. The analyst company predicts that Apple will secure a prominent position thanks to its upcoming cellular-enabled smartwatch.
Both Apple and Samsung continued to occupy the top positions in the global smartphone market in the second quarter of 2017. The other four positions are occupied by local Chinese OEMs Huawei, Oppo, and Xiaomi. The latest numbers are coming from market research company Canalys.
It's the first time India's smartphone market has contracted, according to latest figures from market research firm Canalys. As a result, shipments have fallen by 4 per cent year-on-year to just under 27 million units in the second quarter of 2017. The market research firm says the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) has also "adversely" affected the domestic growth.
