Thirty people were killed when gunmen attacked a restaurant and hotel in Ouagadougou in January 2016 in an incident claimed by al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM). AQIM and related Islamist groups were earlier largely confined to regions of Sahara desert.
Burkina Faso: Gunmen attacked the Aziz Istanbul restaurant late on Sunday and security forces were deployed to try to end the attack. Police spokesman Capt. Guy Ye told The Associated Press the target of the attack was a Turkish restaurant known as Aziz Istanbul
West Africa, Jan 16 (ANI): At least 20 people were killed after Islamist gunmen stormed Splendid Hotel in Ouagadougou, the capital city of Burkina Faso in West Africa. Militants from al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb have claimed the responsibility for the attack.
