The initiative was spearheaded by Bhagat Singh Memorial Foundation, which is run by Imtiaz Rashid Qureshi who had also filed a petition in Lahore High Court to rename Shadman Chowk as ‘Shaheed Bhagat Singh Chowk.’
The DC had to reach National Martyrs’ Memorial at Hussaniwala to pay tributes to Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev who were cremated at this place on March 23, 1931. Saturday was their 88th martyrdom day.
Madan Mohan Juneja, who retired as head of Department of History, Chhaju Ram Memorial Jat PG College of Hisar in Haryana, over the years has authored 30 books, and 10 among them in multiple languages are about Bhagat Singh.
Bhagat Singh is known to have been an avid reader. He read books of various genres including those penned by Bernard Shaw, Bertrand Russell, Charles Dickens, Rousseau, Marx, Bhakhtin, Rabindranath Tagore, Lala Lajpat Rai, William Wordsworth, Omar Khayyam, Mirza Ghalib, and Ramananda Chatterjee.
Mohali, Jan 08(ANI) : Water cannons were fired upon the workers of Youth Congress on Friday in Mohali. The protestors were demanding for renaming of the city’s international airport after Shaheed Bhagat Singh. This has been in demand for a long time now.
