Barcelona terror attack

A white van in central Barcelona's Las Ramblas, an avenue popular with tourists, drove into a crowd of people at a little after 5 pm on Thursday mowing down 13 people and injuring more than 100. In another attack, an Audi A3 car attempted to ram into pedestrians, following which five people suspected of carrying out the attack were gunned down in Cambrils, about 120 kms from Barcelona. Police claim they had belts with explosives on and that one of the attackers alighted from the car to stab passersby. Terror attacks have been carried out in a similar fashion across Europe but Spain had been spared the horror until now. World leaders have condemned the attack and expressed solidarity with the people of the country.
