Reforms in last 6-7 years has led banking sector to become strong today: PM Modi

Addressing the conference on 'Creating Synergies for Seamless Credit Flow and Economic Growth', Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that banks are reflecting an inherent strength today. He said that the financial health of the banks have improved considerably as they have been recovering bad debt.

Amid Covid effect, bank steps, wilful defaults rise Rs 38,976 crore

With this, total wilful defaults amounted to Rs 2,44,602 crore from 12,917 accounts as of December 2020, as against Rs 2,05,606 crore from 12,255 accounts in December 2019, according to data available from credit information bureau TransUnion CIBIL.

73.8% rise in bank frauds; number of cases up 15%

RBI data also shows a sharp jump in fraud amount in the loan cases. The value of frauds related to advances jumped nearly three times from Rs 22,558 crore in 2017-18 to Rs 64,548 crore.
