Gautam Khaitan is an accused in the VVIP chopper deal case as he is alleged to have acted as a key middleman who floated a company called IDS Infotech and used it to pay large sums of money to Rajiv Saxena, another accused in the case.
Reacting to the ED’s submissions, the Congress said the BJP was “putting pressure” on the ED. “(The BJP has) lost elections in 4-5 states. The country has seen the real face of the chowkidaar... elections are nearing. They don’t have any issues now."
If the ED opposes the plea to travel abroad, the court may deny permission later. The CBI on September 1, 2017, had filed a charge sheet in the case in which SP Tyagi and British national Christian Michel were named among the accused.
The order said the state government was “entitled to make a choice to purchase the helicopter in question”, and that there is “nothing on record to show that the helicopter could have been procured for a lesser price”.
