In a statement, the bourse said Chawla has resigned as "Public Interest Director/ Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Stock Exchange of India Ltd with immediate effect in light of recent legal developments".
The move also comes at a time when a new government would be formed following completion of the ongoing Lok Sabha polls and the proposed common platform should be equipped to take the challenges being encountered by the steel industry with the new dispensation.
