Stating that the jail authorities did not let him meet Asaram in jail, devotee Jogendra Tuli, an advocate by profession, had also sought "ayurvedic treatment and nutritious food" for the rape convict on the ground of his "old age and frail health".
The bench, while dismissing the bail plea, said the lower court will proceed with the trial and will not be influenced by the prima facie observations given by the Gujarat High Court earlier while dismissing Asaram's plea.
After three hours, Judge P S Gadhvi delivered the verdict convicting Narayan and four others identified as Ganga alias Dharmishtra Mishra, Jamna alias Bhavna Patel, Hanuman alias Kaushal Thakur and Ramesh Malhotra in the case.
Narayan Sai, arrested in a rape case in 2013, is lodged in a Surat jail. The ED has sought the prosecution of Sai and others for money laundering in its complaint filed at the special PMLA court here, the agency said in a release.
Asaram verdict reactions: Self-styled godman Asaram Bapu has been found guilty of raping a 16-year-old girl from Shahajahanpur of Uttar Pradesh. Reacting to the verdict, Asaram's spokesperson said they will discuss the conviction with their legal team.
