Amit Shah is the Home Minister in the current government and President of Bhartiya Janta Party. He is a close associate of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He held important positions under Modi's cabinet when he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat and was made the President of BJP in July 2014 after Modi became the Prime Minister. Shah also managed the party's campaign in Uttar Pradesh for the General Elections where it performed exceptionally winning 73 out of 80 seats. Shah entered politics by becoming a member of the Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad and later joined the BJP. Shah has also been a controversial leader and was accused of orchestrating fake encounter of criminal Sohrabuddin Sheikh and two others. His name also appeared in the Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case. He was appointed the chief of BJP for the second consecutive time in 2015. He is currently spearheading party's campaign for upcoming assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh and Punjab.
