According to reports, some people constructed a platform at a public place in Domhar village in Sahjanwa area on Thursday night. They started performing a puja after installing Ambedkar's statue on Friday.
While the statue in Azamgarh was found with its right-hand fingers broken, the one in Jaunpur was lying on the ground with one of its legs broken. Locals at both places staged protests and demanded the arrest of the culprits.
Reacting to BJP MP from Ballia Bharat Singh's statement, senior Samajwadi Party leader Ramashankar Vidyarthi said, "The BJP is simply trying to mislead the people of this country in the name of Ambedkar."
“An FIR was registered against Sudesh Antwal and others, who also belong to dalit community. No arrest has been made. Footage of CCTV cameras installed inside the Ambedkar Bhawan is being scrutnized,” said an SHO.
The statue of the Dalit icon was vandalised on Tuesday and replaced on Wednesday by the administration. Strict action should be taken against those involved in the Meerut incident and measures should be taken to ensure that such incidents do not recur, Adityanath said.
